-----------------------------------------

Good morning all,

With the onset of warmer weather and reduced number of visitors to the Clermont area the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries have programmed timber harvesting activities to commence in the 4 Mile General Permission Area (Blair Athol State Forest) as of the 16th of October.

To safely manage this multiple use area Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be closing 4 Mile Fossicking Area during periods of harvesting from Wednesday 15th November 2017.

This closure will be maintained whilst harvesting is occurring. The fossicking area is planned to be reopened before Easter 2018 in time for the peak tourism and fossicking season.

4 Mile General Permission Area will be opened during any extended non harvesting times over this closure period.

Please assist us by:

- checking the status of the GPA's before heading out fossicking,

- complying with any signage in the Fossicking Areas,

Closures are in place for the safety of the general public, machinery operators and rangers working in the state forests. No fossicking or unauthorized access is permitted in the closed Fossicking Area's.

The harvesting of Rosewood from the state forests is an important economic opportunity for the area and provides employment and products for the agriculture industry with most timber going towards fencing materials.

The harvesting activities occur not only in the Fossicking Areas but throughout State Forest in Clermont and Queensland. Harvesters will be working through the forests cutting timber, storing timber in temporary piles using machinery and loading the timber onto trucks for sales.

Thank you for your consideration and stay safe.
